Paspalis for School Board
So many friends, neighbors and colleagues have already signed on to support this reelection campaign! I am profoundly grateful and pledge to continue earning your support every step of this journey -- by the way I conduct myself in this campaign, and by continuing to work hard every day for our schools and our children, as I have during these last four years as a school board member. Let me start by telling you why I am running again.
I have always cared about public education. I attended public school from kindergarten through high school. I was the first person in my family to get a college degree, and the first to become an attorney. I benefitted from a system that offered what all children deserve: a learning environment that provides a solid educational experience and a diversity of other programs that enable their future success. Today I’m our school board president, working hard to improve our facitlies through the smart use of our existing capital funds, working hard to continue bringing innovative and smart improvements to our curriculum offerings, and working hard to make sure every child in our district has the opportunity to succeed. I'm also a parent of twins who are Culver City school students. I, like most parents, want my children to have the same excellent public school experience I had. I want to continue ensuring our district’s continued growth and well-being.
Put simply, I believe in the vision and the mission of public schools. But these are extremely difficult times for public schools and our district is no exception. Because of my unique combination of skills and experience, I know I've been able to help. I have the experience to take on the tough challenges our school district is facing: After four years on our board, I know how to get things done, folks trust me, and I have a proven track record as a problem solver and a consensus builder.
I am a professional: I am a fundraiser and a lawyer; I work with budgets, deadlines, clients, and staff. I have helped with numerous land use and contractual issues that our district has faced in these last four years. I know how to analyze a problem, work with data and find solutions.
I've been a dedicated volunteer, with experience in grass-roots political organizations and on the boards of national non-profits. I know firsthand how powerful hard work and community spirit can be.
I am a homeowner and a head-of-household. I have the same economic concerns and financial worries as most folks in our community do. I understand the value of a dollar and what quality schools mean to our home values.
And I’m a mom: a soccer mom, a baseball mom, a former elementary school room parent & site council member, and one of the people you can count on to help out. And I have been -- and can continue to be -- relied upon to LISTEN and ACT when and where needed, whether it be a site-specific or a district-wide issue. No one cares more passionately about our schools and our children than I do.
I would be proud to continue representing you. Thank you for your support.
